About a week and a half ago we all went camping in Kerrville Texas (about an hour away). Originally it was supposed to just be a boys night out but what the heck!? Us girls like to camp too! It was really nice because we didn't have to pack a tent because the park that we went to had a legit teepee that could be rented for a night. That was a new experience for all of us. Of course it was super cold, but not as cold as the last time we went camping (December 23rd 2014). I think being cold is just part of the camping experience. We got there pretty late so didn't do too much other than try to warm up by the camp fire. The kids always do really well when it comes to falling asleep fairly quickly while camping. Then again, we did go to bed past 10 pm. The kids were super bundled up and slept through the entire night with no issues. Justin and I on the other hand...lol...not the case. Long story short, I had to use the restroom at least 5 times during the night and because it was cold, I'd lay in my covers forever with "that feeling" know that eventually I'd have to just get it over with. I'd also have to work up the courage each time. I'm always terrified that I'll see some animal and that it'll get me right as I'm doing my thing. Justin had it worse than I did. Apparently he ate something that really upset his stomach and he'd wake up running outside...and do his thing. Makes me laugh so hard every time I think about it. That's not really nice...I know...but man, was it funny or what! He ended up getting a fever and laid in bed all day once we got home (that part, not funny).
In the morning, we went to IHOP and met up with Harvey, a dear friend of ours who we refer to as "Uncle Harvey." Glad he was able to have breakfast with us.
A week after camping, the kids were getting the itch to go again and since we didn't have the time or energy, we just laid out blankets and sleeping bags on our back porch and they slept out there. They ended up doing that two more nights. They just love it!
I hope despite all the craziness of life at times, that they will look back with fond memories on their childhood.
