Kyra's favorite Christmas song is Little Drummer Boy, and requests for me to play it every day, specifically for nap and bedtime. I have heard this song many times and I like it, but I wouldn't have ever considered it to be a favorite.....until last Monday. Now I can't get enough of it!!!
Justin was gone, visiting his mom and family in Nevada, and I had just set up some more Christmas lights inside. The kids were going down for bed, and Kyra wanted me to play "the drum song". I turned on Josh Groban's version of the Little Drummer Boy, and I was standing in the middle of our living room, lights off except for the Christmas lights. I closed my eyes, and for the first time, really listened to the words of the song and put myself as if I was there. It was such a beautiful, sacred experience that I'll never forget! I tingled from head to toe and just cried.
I pictured this boy bringing his finest gift, a simple drum, to the Christ child. He didn't have any fancy gifts, but still wanted to play his best for Christ. I imagine that the boy put his heart and soul into playing the drum and wanted it to be as special as he could, because this child knew that the baby in a manger was the Savior of the world. And I love in the song when it says that "He smiled at me", letting this boy know that He accepted his gift, as I know the Christ is happy when we give Him our best.
This song reminds me of the Widows Mite:
41 ¶And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much.
